A broad review on investigations of light energy conversion mechanisms in natural photosynthesis, as well as artificial systems using ultrafast spectroscopy has been published in Chemical Physics Reviews. Energy and electron transfer in photosynthetic systems, and a topical selection of novel materials for solar energy conversion that covers both photovoltaics and molecular photocatalysts for solar fuel production are presented in the paper.
